ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Street Transportation Department is seeking an Active Transportation Planner III to manage the Connected Active Neighborhoods Program (PhxCAN). The Active Transportation Planner III in the Design Construction Management Division will possess a demonstrated track record of working on high profile pedestrian and bicycle transportation projects, studies, and programs in building safe transportation options for residents. This position requires experience in active transportation planning and design, community engagement, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders in an auto-oriented city.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Coordinate implementation of quick-build projects. 
  • Build lasting relationships with community leaders and stakeholders. 
  • Support incremental change and continuous improvement.
  • Analysis of spatial data, quantitative data, and qualitative data.
  • Support implementation of the Active Transportation Plan policy recommendations. 
  • Manage community centered active transportation planning and community engagement. 
  • Contribute to technical reviews of bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure to ensure safe and enjoyable designs. 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and present information.
  • Ability to perform basic data analysis and spatial analysis, including proficiency in GIS.
  • Ability to nurture collaboration and communication with different audiences and cultural competency to lead appropriate community outreach that can meet people where they are at.

SALARY

 

Pay Range: $76,627.20 to $118,872.00 annually.

Hiring Range: $76,627.20 to $102,668.80 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 
  • Five years of experience in urban planning, including three years at the level of Planner II.
  • Bachelor's degree in urban or city planning, landscape architecture, engineering, architecture, political science, a related field, or a field related to the specialty area.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience managing complex projects and/or programs.
  • Experience with a focus on active transportation planning and design.
  • Experience in leading community engagement with a focus on equity in processes and outcomes.
  • Bilingual - fluent in Spanish preferred.
